Medicinal Mushroom Series: Mesimakobu (Phellinus linteus)

1) Anti-inflammatory

The Mesimakobu mushroom has been shown to decrease inflammation in two ways. It decreases pro-inflammatory pathways (cytokines TNF-a, IL-1b, IL-2, IL-6, IL-12), and increases anti-inflammatory pathways (cytokines IL-4 and IL-10). This combination of inflammation fighting power makes it quite useful in maintaining optimal health.

2) Hypoglycemic

This mushroom has the ability to decrease blood sugar, a very useful benefit for those who have diabetes or blood sugar that is creeping upward. Good long term health is very much linked to insulin and blood sugar control. Keeping those things in check will give you the best chance at living a happy and healthy life.

3) Hypolipidemic

Mesimakobu has the power to influence cholesterol levels in a positive way. Supplementation with this mushroom can decrease your bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides. Both of these markers are closely monitored on a regular basis as a predictor for heart disease later in life. Keeping these levels in healthy range means a lower chance of developing any conditions later in life.

4) Protects the Liver and Kidneys

When taken as a supplement, Mesimakobu has been shown to improve labs associated with both kidney and liver function. Protecting these vital organs means ensuring your main pathways of detoxification are running smoothly. With an ever growing environmental burden of pollution and additives in our food, ensuring that your kidneys and liver are working optimally is very important!
